Product Overview -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server (KAV4LMS) is an anti-virus and content filtering application, able to intercept the incoming and outgoing mail traffic, scanning all messages as they pass. This is done by using MTA specific plug-ins that send the messages to a central scanning service, which performs the analysis eventually applying security policies, and returns the results. Currently the following MTAs are supported: Sendmail (via Milter API only), Postfix, Exim and Qmail. System Requirements -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hardware requirements for a mail server with about 200 MB of traffic per day: * Intel Pentium IV, 3 GHz processor or faster; * 1 GB RAM; * 200 MB of available space on your hard drive (this amount does not include space necessary for storing backup message copies). Software requirements: 1. One of the following 32-bit operating systems: * Red Hat Enterprise Server Linux 5.2; * Fedora 9; * SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2; * openSUSE Linux 11.0; * Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r4; * Mandriva Corporate Server 4.0; * Ubuntu 8.04.1 Server Edition; * FreeBSD 6.3, 7.0. One of the following 64-bit operating systems: * Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.2; * Fedora 9; * SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2; * openSUSE Linux 11.0; 2. One of the following MTAs: * Sendmail 8.12.x or higher; * qmail 1.03; * Postfix 2.x; * Postfix 2.4.x+ (for integration using the milter interface); * Exim 4.x. (for "exim" integration, i.e. post-queue); * Exim 4.51+ (for "exim-dlfunc" integration, i.e. dynamically loaded library) 3. Linux/FreeBSD utilities: awk, grep, sed; 4. Perl 5.0 or higher; 5. Webmin program (www.webmin.com), if remote management of Kaspersky Anti-Virus is planned; 6. NET-SNMP 5.2.1.2 or higher if SNMP use is planned. Product Installation, Removal and Upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To install the product from scratch, use the corresponding system specific command: In Linux/RPM: rpm -i .rpm In Linux/Debian: dpkg -i .deb In FreeBSD: pkg_add .tgz To remove the product, use the corresponding system specific command: In Linux/RPM: rpm -e In Linux/Debian: dpkg -r (keeps configuration files) or dpkg -P (removes all files) In FreeBSD: pkg_delete Upgrade from Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6.26.3 and 5.6.38.1: If you have Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6.26.3 or 5.6.38.1 installed and integrated with Qmail or Exim using dl_func, or the FreeBSD operating system is used, then the previous product version has to be removed first with the following system specific commands: In Linux/RPM: rpm -e In Linux/Debian: dpkg -r (keeps configuration files) In FreeBSD: pkg_delete Then the new version should be installed using the procedure described for product installation from scratch. For other integration methods and operating systems the application supports upgrade using the following system specific commands: In Linux/RPM: rpm -U In Linux/Debian: dpkg -i Upgrading from other versions: You can upgrade Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Linux and FreeBSD Mail Servers MP2 CF1 (5.5.33.0) and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for Sendmail with Milter API Critical Fix 2 (5.6.20.2) installed on the server to Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6. You can use Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6 with your existing license key for previous versions. We recommend the following method for upgrading: 1. Stop MTA and previous version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus. 2. Uninstall previous Kaspersky product using the method described in the Administrator's Manual. If the Webmin module has been installed, it should be removed using Webmin administration tools. 3. Install Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6 using the method described in the included Administrator's Manual. The installation script will offer you to convert the configuration file(s) of the previous version. 4. Check the obtained application configuration file. Known Issues and Workarounds -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *30100 Content filtering actions can only be performed over the smallest message parts. That means the application cannot delete complex message parts but only the part with the matching content-type. That is why if content filtering rules match any of the 'message/*' or 'multipart/*' header types, the action will NOT be taken but a warning will be logged. * 38728 Currently kavscanner uses full path to file when reporting. Therefore for deeply nested directories it may produce an error because of the string length limitations. The path to a file for scanning may not exceed 4096 bytes. Objects located on deeper nesting levels will not be scanned. * 40009 The kavscanner utility cannot scan certain file types if these files are larger than 2 GB. * 40835 After Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server integration with Sendmail Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 integration stops functioning. It is recommended to repeat Kaspersky Anti-Spam integration after product installation. * 40853 Several versions of Exim may crash after Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server has been integrated via dl_func. The crash is caused by a problem in Exim. For additional information see http://bugs.exim.org/show_bug.cgi?id=713. * 41317 It is impossible to obtain the data over SNMP while reloading the bases.
